Banana is probably the most common ingredient in smoothies. Why? Banana-based smoothies are very tasty and often simple to create in a few minutes. Bananas are in many ways the perfect fruit: sweet, easy to peel, easy to carry with you and simply convenient in every way. It also doesn’t hurt that you can find them in most stores of any kind.

As you might know, bananas are not among the healthiest of fruits. Their biggest problem is that they are rich in carbohydrates, or carbs. Carbohydrates metabolize as sugar in our bodies, which gives us energy. However, sometimes we don’t move enough to burn all this energy, which makes us gain weight. So if you know that you don’t move much and are worried about gaining weight, try to cut down on the bananas.
Bananas are not all bad, though. They are a great source of potassium and they also relatively much vitamin C, though not as much as citrus fruits, and dietary fiber (12 percent of RDA per banana). They also contain almost no fat, no cholesterol and no sodium. And, even if we are talking about small numbers here, they also contain some calcium, iron, vitamin A and protein.
