On my today’s smoothie menu is a basic broccoli kiwifruit smoothie. It is easy to prepare and requires no more than three ingredients: broccoli, kiwifruit and liquid base of your choice. It’s dairy-free, doesn’t contain bananas and can easily be done kids-friendly.
If your kids have a love and hate relationship with broccoli, then this drink is perfect since they won’t notice the taste. Kiwifruit really does a great job masking the cabbagy taste of broccoli that might not appeal to everybody. Drinking this smoothie gives your kids their daily dose of greens and a lot of nutrients, while being healthy and tasty.
You can prepare this smoothie in two different ways:
- Weight-loss smoothie
- Kids-friendly or sweeter version of the smoothie
Weight-loss Broccoli Kiwifruit Smoothie
In this recipe I use green tea as a liquid base. Why green tea? Well, green tea is more than just any liquid. Quality green tea boosts your energy levels and helps your body get rid of toxins. Green tea contains a lot of antioxidants and has antiobesity and antidiabetic effects. In my opinion green tea is the best base for weight loss smoothies. Yet it is rarely mentioned in smoothie recipes, which is a shame.
Remember, green tea contains caffeine, so if you have problems with falling asleep, don’t make this smoothie before going to bed. You can use any other liquid if you want to enjoy this smoothie late in the evening.
Kids-Friendly Broccoli Kiwifruit Smoothie
If you don’t like green tea, feel free to swap it with any juice of your choice.
It is especially important if you prepare this drink for the small ones. Green tea is surprisingly high in caffeine so juice might be a better liquid choice for kids.
Remember if you want to prepare a healthy smoothie, use juice that doesn’t contain added sugar.
What Else Can You Add?
Do you want to add more nutrition to your smoothie? Just add a few spoons of protein powder, ground flaxseed, chia seeds, or any other healthy green or berry powders.

Green tea helps to keep this smoothie low in calories and sugar. If you use juice instead of tea, you will get a sweeter version of this smoothie that might not be as good for you.
